Wellness & Vaccinations
Preventive care for dogs and cats with thorough exams, tailored vaccine guidance, and a calm, caring experience for every visit.
Our wellness approach looks beyond today’s visit to support your pet’s long-term health.

Physical Exam
A thorough, thoughtful physical exam is the foundation of our care every time. As a result, we frequently identify medical concerns before your pet is showing symptoms at home and can work with you to prioritize interventions. We also identify imbalances that are more easily and less expensively treated before they become serious diseases.
Vaccines vs Vaccine Titers
Vaccines are injections given to build immunity. Titers are blood tests that measure immunity. Puppies and kittens require a series of vaccinations starting at about 8 weeks of age to build immunity. Then as adults, it is more cost effective to vaccinate based on research recommendations, but more cautious to vaccinate based on individual titers. Recommendations will take into account your specific pet’s overall health, previous reactions, risks, possible medical contraindications, and financial considerations.

Annual Bloodwork
Evaluated from a traditional and functional medicine perspective
At a minimum, we recommend an annual test for heartworms and intestinal parasites in dogs. We strongly recommend annual blood chemistries and blood cell counts for all pets. Our doctors evaluate the results not only for evidence of disease but also for early signs of imbalance. We use these tests to be more proactive with integrative therapies that may prevent illness or modify progression.
Tailored Parasite Control Options
We live in a subtropical region where parasites are prevalent. Parasite control is a must to prevent external parasites and the diseases that they can carry such as Lyme disease, infectious anemia, and heartworm disease. Proper recommendations for prevention will be based on the lifestyle and risk level for your pet.

Wellness Ultrasound Scans
This test for healthy pets is a brief ultrasound of the abdomen to screen for masses or fluid earlier than these issues may be detected on a physical exam or bloodwork. It is particularly beneficial for middle aged pets. By finding abnormalities early, we have greater success restoring pets to health. We offer these scans as part of a yearly well check.
Nutritional Advice/Whole Food as Medicine
We recommend balanced whole foods as all or part of your pet’s diet to improve the microbiome (bacteria in the body/digestive system). The microbiome has a huge impact on overall wellness, immune system health, gut health, behavior, and allergies. We also consider the energetics of food (warming, cooling or neutral) and use this to balance the pet’s system. For example, allergies and infections are typically hot diseases which respond to cooling foods.
